WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

Counselling is a talking therapy – a confidential space where you can express and process your thoughts, feelings and physical experience.

WHO DO I WORK WITH?

I work with adults and children experiencing all types of anxiety for kinds of reasons.

Whether the cause of your anxiety is school or work related stress, a relationship issue, pregnancy, loss, bereavement, physical ill health, a traumatic event or something else, I can offer you the opportunity to become more at ease within your body and mind - freeing you up to make the changes you want to see within yourself and your life.

It is possible to be more at peace, physically relaxed, confident and outgoing. You can sleep better, think more clearly, make better decisions and reach personal goals.

It is possible to move through and recover from anxiety.

MY APPROACH

A core belief underpinning my practice is that mind and body work as one and that every part of us is involved in every situation. Working with me will mean that the whole of you will be acknowledged, your thoughts, your emotions and your physical experience.

This means that during sessions we could use a body focused dialogue to deepen self-awareness, increase feelings of safety or support relaxation. We could explore emotions enabling expression, understanding, acceptance and ease. We could examine unhelpful beliefs to reduce their power, change behavior's or calm the mind.  Our work together can include talking and using creative approaches.

Being an experienced integrative counsellor, I have an in-depth knowledge of many different therapeutic approaches including but not limited to, Person Centered, Compassion Focused, Body Focused, Trauma Informed and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

RESEARCH

It is now well researched and documented that in order for psychological approaches (counselling) to be more effective in helping people to recover from stress, anxiety and trauma, they must include a focus on the body to support psychological regulation and body mind integration. I am highly experienced in working with the body, both physically through the therapeutic touch of shiatsu and verbally through different forms of body focused verbal dialogue.
